Privacy
This is written in plain language on purpose — here's exactly what New To Northern Liberties collects, why, and what happens to it. Nothing here is sold to third parties.
Trash-day lookup
When you look up your trash day, the address you type is sent directly from your browser to the City of Philadelphia's own public address API to find your collection day — we don't see that request. Separately, we log the address you submitted in our own database, so we can see which parts of Northern Liberties are actually using the tool. That's it — we don't use it to contact you or connect it to anything else you do on the site.
Checklist signup
If you sign up for the First 30 Days checklist — on the home page, the checklist page, a category page, the Newcomer Guide, or a building's welcome page — we store your email address so we can send you the checklist and the welcome email series described there. We use Resend to send those emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send; that stops future emails right away, though we keep the record itself until you ask us to delete it (see Questions, below). The signup form also has an optional "renting or owning?" question — answering is never required, and we only use it to decide which emails make sense to send you. One of our emails includes a link to answer this same question if you skipped it the first time; the link's page only shows what you clicked and asks you to confirm it, and writes nothing until you do.
Suggest-a-business submissions
If you suggest a business or flag an update through the submit form, we store what you entered — the business info, your message, and your email if you gave one — so we can review it and follow up if we have a question. If you gave us an email, we also send a short confirmation right away letting you know we got it. Submissions go into a private review queue; nothing publishes automatically, and nothing you submit becomes public unless we actually add it as a pick.
Building partner pages
If you sign up for the checklist through a building's welcome page (a /welcome/ page), we note which building's page you came from, in addition to your email. That's how we know to skip the later lease-renewal email for residents who signed up this way (see the building-partner page for that promise in full), and how we can tell a building how many of their residents have signed up, as a count only, never a list of who. If you fill out the building-partner inquiry form, we store what you entered so we can follow up about setting up your building's page, and we send you a short confirmation email right away too.
The trivia game
If you play the trivia game at /play, we log anonymous events — that you started, finished, which audience you picked, your score, your tier, and whether you played under a timer — with no name, email, or IP address attached to any of it. Separately, the optional email signup on the end screen works exactly like the checklist signup above: we store your email and send you the same checklist and welcome series. That signup has no picture-puzzle spam check like the forms elsewhere on the site, so to stop it being abused we store a one-way hashed version of your IP address — never the address itself — just long enough to count how many signups have come from it in the past hour. That hash isn't tied to your email or anything else you do on the site. No account is needed to play or to sign up.
Spam protection
The checklist, submit, and building-partner forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to screen out automated spam instead of showing you a picture puzzle. Cloudflare's own documentation says Turnstile processes only what it needs to tell a human from a bot, and doesn't read or store what you actually type into the form.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and visits in aggregate — enough to see which pages people actually use. Per Cloudflare's own documentation, it doesn't use cookies or localStorage to do this, and doesn't fingerprint visitors by IP address or browser information.
Where this lives
Everything above is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure (hosting and the database) and sent using Resend (email delivery). We don't use or share it with any other company.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share any of this with third parties.
- We don't use it for advertising or tracking you across other sites.
- We don't require an account or password for anything on the site.
